Janna has been playing the piano for all of her memorable life. The daughter of a piano teacher, she began formal lessons at the age of four. She graduated summa cum laude from the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in 2001 with a bachelor's of music degree in piano performance under the tutelage of Karin Redekopp Edwards. While at Wheaton, she was the overall winner of the annual concerto competition in 1999 and was twice given the opportunity to perform Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra. She later went on to study with Donald Walker.
Janna began teaching piano during high school and now is on the faculty at the Wheaton Yamaha Music School in Wheaton, Illinois. There she teaches several traditional private piano students of all levels and ages, including adults. She also teaches the Yamaha early childhood curriculum. A member of the Music Teachers’ National Association, she is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music. She is also a member of the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Janna is a certified Yamaha instructor and a licensed Musikgarten teacher.
Janna has extensive accompanying experience with individuals and groups including the Wheaton College Womens’ Chorale and the Wheaton Symphony Chorus. She is the accompanist of choice for the recitals of colleagues including local voice teachers and the West Chicago School of Music. In addition, at her church Janna serves as a pianist and vocalist and, together with her husband, co-directs the choir.
