A native of Boston, violinist Frank Powdermaker graduated from The Juilliard School. His teachers included Marylou Speaker, David Nadien and Nathan Milstein.
 Since his solo debut with the Boston Symphony at age 15, Frank has appeared as soloist in most European countries and in Canada, Russia, Finland and South America. In America he has performed three live recitals on National Public Radio and recorded a recital for Continental Cablevision. He has won prizes in three international violin competitions.
A former member of the New York Piano Trio and the DeVos Quartet, Frank's orchestral career began when he became the youngest member of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. His concertmaster appointments include the Opera Company of Boston, Aspen Music Festival, Andover Chamber Symphony and the Grand Rapids Symphony. A former member of the Pittsburgh and Toronto Symphonies, Frank is a member of the Metropolis String Quartet and has performed with the Boston Symphony since 1997. His CD collaboration with pianist Janice Weber of music by Saint-Saens and Jeno Hubay received a rave review from the Boston Globe.
A former faculty member at the New England Conservatory, Longy School, New Hampshire College and Phillips Academy, Andover; he teaches year round in the greater Boston area and in western Massachusetts during the summer months. He has former students in orchestras and chamber music groups throughout the U.S.
