Wheaton Yamaha Music School

wheaton yamaha music school lessonsWELCOME!
The Wheaton Yamaha Music School, part of an international family of schools providing children ages 2 1/2 through 8 with comprehensive music education programs, has introduced thousands of children to the world of music in its 35 years in Wheaton.  Music at Yamaha is a wonderful adventure with singing, rhythm, movement, ear training, and keyboard activities.  In classes together, parents and children discover the joys of making music.

MUSIC IS FUN!
The school's programs provide the young child with an introduction to basic principles of music - relative pitch, notation, melody, harmony, and rhythm - all in an atmosphere that is nurturing, rewarding, and fun.  Children play to learn, and their natural musical abilities flourish; the solid foundation for a lifetime with music is built.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BRING A CHILD TO MUSIC?
Between the ages of 3 and 8 the major development of the ear occurs.  This is also the age when a child is eager and receptive to learning through imitation and participation.  Years of experience have proven that the prime time for tuning the ear to the understanding and lifelong enjoyment of music is during these early years.  Through our programs the young child learns all the principles of music - relative pitch, notation, melody, harmony, and rhythm - all in an atmosphere that is nurturing, rewarding, and fun.

HOW DID THE YAMAHA MUSIC EDUCATION SYSTEM BEGIN?
yamaha music wheaton schoolThe Yamaha courses began in the mid-1950s in Japan under the direction of Mr. Gen’ichi Kawakami, the president of Nippon-Gakki Company, Ltd. (now called Yamaha Corporation). Mr. Kawakami believed his company was responsible not only for making a quality product, but also for teaching customers how to use the product. Consequently, he established the non-profit Yamaha Music Foundation (YMF) in 1966 for the purpose of developing and promoting music education and music popularization activities internationally. YMF guides the development of the Yamaha Music Education System in 41 countries.

WHY IS MUSIC IMPORTANT?
Music helps children physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally.  Yamaha establishes the environments, through music, to expand your child's natural abilities.  Through musical games, singing, and playing, your child enters a new world of enchantment.

WHO TEACHES YOUR CHILD?
wheaton school music courses children yamahaOur classes are taught by teachers who are college graduates in music.  They are energetic, well qualified musicians, screened through interviews and testing, then trained by Yamaha's educational staff.  You will find our teachers to be warm, bright, enthusiastic, and eager to work with young children and their parents.

HOW ARE YOU INVOLVED?
In our group lessons a close partnership between parent, child, and teacher develops.  Together we explore the world of music in class so that you and your child can continue this adventure at home.  Our homework assignments strengthen concepts and skills that have been taught in class.

HOW DO WE GO ABOUT IT?
Through the ear, the voice, the fingers, and the mind, music becomes part of the real world of each child.  We provide the necessary tools, guidance, and support to encourage you and your child to form a learning partnership where natural musical abilities can flourish, where children can be creative, and where the solid foundation for a lifetime with music is built.

The time to begin is while the child's ear is receptive to the sounds which make up music.  Creative teachers, using the guidelines and techniques developed over the years by Yamaha, can give your child the right start in music through our music fundamentals course.
